Abstract:

Collapsing glomerulopathy (CG) was ever considered a variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). However, in morphology, CG is characterized by podocyte proliferation, microfilament decrease, and capillary loop collapsing, which are different from the features of FSGS (such as podocyte number decrease, extracellular matrix accumulation, and segmental or glomerular sclerosis). CG is also significantly distinguished from FSGS both in epidemiology and clinical manifestations, therefore it is now recognized as a new independent disease.

Key words: Collapsing glomerulopathy, Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, Nephropathy, Human immunodeficiency virus, APOL1
