Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the application of a self-made modified specimen retrieval bag (HISRB) in video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Methods

An HISRB was made using ring forceps and surgical gloves. A total of 110 patients from five hospitals who underwent VATS were randomly divided into an experimental group (HISRB group) and a control group (ordinary glove group). The time of putting specimen into the bag and the number of attempts were evaluated.

Results

The time of putting specimen into the bag was (14.86±5.76) seconds in the experimental group and (123.81±94.65) seconds in the control group (t=-8.600, P<0.05). The number of attempts was 1-2 in the experimental group and 1-4 in the control group (U=858.000, P<0.05).

Conclusion

Compared with ordinary gloves, HISRB can significantly shorten the time of putting specimen into the bag and decrease the number of attempts without increasing the cost.
