Abstract:

In December 2019, multiple cases of new-type coronavirus pneumonia were found in Wuhan. Subsequently, cases have also been found in other parts of China and abroad. At present, new coronavirus pneumonia has been included in Class B infectious diseases and managed according to Class A infection. The sudden outbreak brought coronavirus infections to our sight again. So far, there have been seven types of coronaviruses known to infect humans. HCoV-OC43, HCoV-229E, HCoV-NL63, and HCoV-HKU1 infections often show only mild acute upper respiratory infection symptoms. SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV and the current 2019-nCoV may cause more serious illnesses. Coronavirus infection can cause cytokine storms in the body, which is an important cause of acute respiratory distress syndrome. Among the cytokines involved, the research on interleukin-6 (IL-6) is relatively extensive. This article reviews the progress in the understanding of the relationship between IL-6 and coronavirus infection.

Key words: Interleukin-6, Coronavirus pneumonia, Cytokines
