Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the clinical value of ultra-fine percutaneous nephroscopy in the treatment of calculi (≤1 cm) in calyceal diverticulum without hydronephrosis.

Methods

A retrospective analysis was performed on data of 31 cases with calculi in calyceal diverticulum without hydronephrosis at Xuzhou Central Hospital from May 2017 to May 2019, including 17 cases of ultra-fine percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (UMP group) and 14 cases of ureteral holmium laser lithotripsy (RIRS group). The operative time, postoperative hemoglobin reduction, and postoperative hospital stay were compared by the independent sample t-test between the two groups, and the χ2 test was used to compare the difference of stone removal rate and the Clavien grade of postoperative complications.

Results

The time of operation in the UMP group was shorter than that in the RIRS group [(47.59±6.07) min vs (53.21±5.15) min, t=-2.746, P=0.010], and the rate of stone removal was higher than that in the RIRS group (94.118% vs 57.142%, P=0.028). The Clavien grade of postoperative complications was significantly better than that in the RIRS group (P=0.031). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of hemoglobin reduction and hospital stay (P>0.05).

Conclusion

Ultra-fine percutaneous nephroscopy is a safe, effective, and rapid method to treat calculi in calyceal diverticulum without hydrocephalus, which is less than 1 cm.
