Abstract:

The medical model has changed from the “biomedical model” to the overall “bio-social-psycho-environmental” model. Under the guidance of holism, the emergence of integrative medicine has become inevitable. The development of contemporary medicine has entered an era of multi-mode, multi-level, multi-discipline, and integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It is difficult for traditional single discipline to cope with the severe challenges of complex disease patterns and changeable development situations. In clinical practice, as a whole, the pelvic floor is composed of three different groups of organs that are linked together by muscles and ligaments, including the bladder-urethra, vagina-uterus, and rectum-anus, and the dysfunction of any organ is not isolated. As a matter of course, pelvic surgery has emerged as a secondary discipline covering three major areas: Urology, obstetrics and gynecology, and anorectology. Under the direction of the theory of holistic medicine, pelvic surgery has broken the rigid pattern of the discipline system, using a variety of auxiliary examinations such as pelvic floor imaging dynamics, urodynamics, and anorectal dynamics, combined with traditional Chinese medicine, pelvic floor biofeedback, sacral neuromodulation, artificial sphincter implantation, pelvic floor patch surgery, tension-free tape surgery, etc., to optimize the clinical pathway and management mode of pelvic floor diseases while continuously creating new theories and techniques. This article discusses the development trend of integrative medicine with pelvic surgery from the background of the emergence of pelvic surgery, combined with my years of practice, with a macro perspective from the theoretical basis and clinical practice in multiple aspects.
