Abstract:

Psychomotor retardation (PMR) is one of the most important symptoms of depression, which is characterized by significant speech, thinking, and movement limitation or delay. At present, most depression scales have only a small number of questions to evaluate PMR, but the clinical manifestations of PMR are diverse, such as persistent fatigue, decreased energy, and inattention. PMR may involve specific neuropathologic mechanisms or may be used to guide therapeutic interventions. This paper reviews the clinical evaluation methods and rating scales for PMR commonly used domestically and abroad as well as the biological mechanism of PMR, focusing on the studies that searched for biomarkers of PMR, with an aim to provide standardized PMR evaluation methods for future studies and provide reference for the further study of biological mechanism of PMR.
