Abstract:

Objective

To study the influence of motivational interview combined with periodic health education on health behavior in patients after coronary artery bypass grafting.

Methods

A total of 120 patients with coronary artery bypass grafting who were admitted to the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2019 to January 2021 were selected and divided into a control group (n=60) and an observation group (n=60) using the random number table. There were 36 males and 24 females in the observation group with a mean age of (53.69±2.11) years, and there were 37 males and 23 females in the control group with a mean age of (54.39±3.22) years. Both groups were given routine nursing care, and the observation group was additionally given motivational interview combined with periodic health education. The self-management ability (CSMS) and self-efficacy (GSES), and the negative emotions [self-rating anxiety (SAS) score and self-rating depression (SDS) score] and healthy behavior ability (SRAHP) were compared between the two groups before and after nursing. The changes in health behavior before and after nursing were compared between the two groups, and the nursing satisfaction in the two groups was observed.

Results

After nursing, the CSMS and GSES scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05 for both). The scores of SAS and SDS in the observation group after nursing were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05 for both). The scores of health responsibility, psychological well-being, exercise management, and SRAHP after nursing in the observation group were all significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05 for all), though there was no significant difference in the score of nutrition management between the two groups (P>0.05). The percentages of patients with smoking and drinking in the observation group after nursing were 41.7% and 31.7%, which were significantly lower than those of the control group (60.0% and 50.0%, respectively, P<0.05 for both). The percentage of patients consuming a high-fat high-salt diet in the observation group was 38.3%, which was comparable with that of the control group (41.7%, P>0.05). The body mass index was significantly higher in the control group (P<0.05). The nursing satisfaction rate in the observation group was 96.7%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (86.7%, P<0.05).

Conclusion

Motivational interview combined with periodic health education has a significant effect in the nursing of patients after coronary artery bypass grafting with improved mood, self-management ability, self-efficacy, healthy behavior ability, and care satisfaction.
