Abstract:

Due to ocular surface injury, reduced blink rate, and meibomian gland dysfunction, prolonged operation of visual display terminal (VDT) may lead to an unstable tear film, which is a significant risk factor for dry eye. The pathogenesis of VDT-induced dry eye remains unclear. In recent years, there has been a continuous increase in its incidence, particularly among younger individuals, significantly impacting public health. This paper reviews the etiology and intervention strategies for VDT-related dry eye based on the diagnosis of symptoms and signs associated with VDT use, with an aim to provide valuable insights for improving systematic diagnostic criteria and treatment plans for this condition.
