Abstract:

Objective

To establish the reference range of serum thyroid hormones in rats in Inner Mongolia area.

Methods

By strictly controlling experimental conditions, 50 normal Wistar rats of SPF grade were screened from the Experimental Animal Center of Inner Mongolia Medical University and fed for 6 weeks. Then, serum samples were collected after the rats weighed (200±11) g and pathological examination of thyroid tissue excluded all types of thyroid disease. Serum thyroid hormone levels were determined by ELISA, and a normality test was performed by the Shapiro-Wilk method. Data following a normal distribution are expressed mean ± standard deviation, and the medical reference range was determined by a normal distribution method.

Results

The normal reference values of serum T3, T4 and TSH levels in Wistar rats in this region were 0.73-0.99 ng/mL, 4.02-7.91 μg/dL and 0.72-1.44 μIU/mL, respectively.

Conclusion

The normal reference values of serum thyroid hormone levels in adult rats in Inner Mongolia have been successfully established, which provided basic data for thyroid hormone levels in rats in this region.

Key words: Wistar rats, Thyroid hormone, Normal reference
