Abstract:

Objective

To observe the therapeutic effects of lactase in infant physiological diarrhea.

Methods

The clinical data of outpatient infants who presented with physiological diarrhea and received lactase treatment at our hospital from January 2017 to December 2018 were studied retrospectively. The observation group included 73 cases who were treated with lactase, while the control group included 30 cases who were treated with montmorillonite powder alone or combined with probiotics. The cases of the two groups were both followed for more than 3 months to compare the therapeutic effects. One of the parents of each case completed the generic quality of life inventory-74 (GQOLI-74).

Results

The total response rate of the observation group was 100.00%, with a significant improvement rate of 89.04% and improvement rate of 10.96%. The total response rate of the control group was 60.00%, with a significant improvement rate of 46.67% and improvement rate of 13.33%. The total response rate was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). The numbers of hospital visits and stool examinations and the rate of diarrhea associated complications were significantly lower, and the cost was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). The status of physical and psychological health in the parents was significantly improved only in the observation group (P<0.01), but not in the control group (P>0.05), a month later.

Conclusion

Lactase is safe and effective in the treatment of infant physiological diarrhea, which can also improve the status of physical and psychological health in parents.
