Abstract:

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin protein produced by Clostridium botulinum. Its mechanism of action is to block the release of acetylcholine from the neuromuscular junction of the cholinergic nerve and block the conduction impulse. In ophthalmologic treatment, botulinum toxin has been routinely applied to the treatment of eye diseases such as blepharospasm, strabismus, wrinkles around the eyes, and upper eyelid contracture. This article reviews the progress in the application of botulinum toxin in ophthalmology.

Key words: Botulinum toxin, Ophthalmology, Blepharospasm
