Needs of breast cancer survivors for medical and nursing rehabilitation clinic: a qualitative study

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the needs of breast cancer survivors for medical and nursing rehabilitation clinic to improve the service.

Methods

A oualitative research method was used to conduct a semi-structured interview with 13 postoperative breast cancer survivors. Colaizzi analysis method was used to analyze the data.

Results

Three themes and five sub-themes were extracted: continuous limb rehabilitation (limb dysfunction rehabilitation and management of lymphedema), diversified information needs (healthy lifestyle, sexual health and fertility, and knowledge on adjuvant therapy), and professional and continuous emotional support.

Conclusion

Breast cancer survivors have many healthcare needs. The breast cancer medical and nursing rehabilitation clinic should set up the service contents according to those needs, so as to provide professional service to improve the quality of life of breast cancer survivors.
