Effect of operator's posture on puncture effect of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle

Objective

To investigate the influence of the posture of the operator on the success rate of puncture of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle.

Methods

Fifty patients with intracerebral hemorrhage who underwent external ventricular drainage at Department of Neurosurgery, Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital from June 1 to October 1, 2020 were selected. According to the operator's posture, the patients were divided into either a high gravity center group or a low gravity center group. A simple figure method was used to compare the difference between the two kinds of postures, and the success rate of puncture and biopsy time were recorded.

Results

17 cases (68%) were successful in the high gravity center group, and 24 cases (96%) were successful in the low gravity center group, there was a statistically significant difference between them (P＜0.05). Biopsy time in the high gravity center group was significantly longer than that of the low gravity center group [(31.00±6.16) min vs (13.16±4.23) min, P＜0.01].

Conclusion

Low gravity center posture is the ideal position for lateral ventricle puncture.
