Abstract:

Vascular mild cognitive impairment (VaMCI) is the early stage of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). VCI consists of a large class of complicated syndromes (mild cognitive impairment to dementia) associated with cerebrovascular disease and its risk factors. Previous studies have shown that the course of VaMCI is reversible. Thus, it is of great significance to identify and intervene VaMCI in the early stage and prevent it from being transformed into vascular dementia (VaD). However, there are currently no uniform diagnostic criteria for VaMCI. With the application of neuroimaging technology, the changes of structural and functional brain network are expected to provide reliable biomarkers for the early diagnosis of VaMCI. In this paper, we review the recent progress in the understanding of the changes of structural and functional brain network in patients with VaMCI.
