Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of the nursing project based on IKAP theory in improving the self-perceived burden and hope of peritoneal dialysis patients.

Methods

Seventy-five patients who underwent peritoneal dialysis for end stage renal disease at our department from June 2018 to December 2019 were selected as a control group, and 75 patients who were treated from January 2020 to July 2021 were selected as an experimental group. The control group received routine care, and the experimental group received the nursing project based on IKAP theory. The self-perceived burden and hope levels before and after nursing, as well as the patient's satisfaction with the nursing care were compared between the two groups.

Results

Before nursing, the scores of economic/family burden, nursing burden, psychological/emotional burden, psychological/emotional burden, and treatment burden, the total score of self-perceived burden, the scores of positive attitudes toward reality and the future, positive actions taken, and keeping an intimate relationship with others, and the total score of hope had no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). After nursing, the scores of economic/family burden, nursing burden, psychological/emotional burden, psychological/emotional burden, and treatment burden, the total score of self-perceived burden, the scores of positive attitudes toward reality and the future, positive actions taken, and keeping an intimate relationship with others improved significantly in both groups (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the scores of economic/family burden, nursing burden, psychological/emotional burden, psychological/emotional burden, and treatment burden and the total score of self-perceived burden in the observation group decreased signficantly (P<0.05), while the scores of positive attitudes toward reality and the future, positive actions taken, and keeping an intimate relationship with others increased significantly (P<0.05).

Conclusion

The nursing projects based on IKAP theory can help improve the self-perceived burden and Herth hope inder of peritoneal dialysis patients.
