Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the risk factors and prognosis of stroke associated pneumonia (SAP) in patients with severe cerebrovascular disease.

Methods

Clinical data for patients treated at the Neurological Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of our department from March 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015 were collected and retrospectively analyzed by univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis to explore the risk factors and prognosis of SAP.

Results

A total of 159 cases were included, of which 99 (62.26%) were male and 60 (37.74%) were female. There were 113 (71.07%) cases of cerebral infarction and 46 (28.93%) cases of cerebral hemorrhage. Ninety-one patients had SAP, accounting for 57. 23% of all patients. Univariate analysis demonstrated that NICU stay (t=3.602), dysphagia (χ2=8.344), nasal feeding (χ2=8.344), GCS score (t=-3.272), and NIHSS score (t=3.366) were risk factors for SAP (P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that NICU stay (OR=1.050, 95% CI=1.014-1.087) and NIHSS score at admission (OR=1.082, 95% CI=1.015-1.152) were independent risk factors for SAP (P<0.05).

Conclusion

NICU stay and NIHSS score at admission are independent risk factor for SAP.
