Abstract:

The occurrence of ischemic stroke is influenced by a variety of genetic and environmental factors. Atherosclerosis is an important pathologic and physiological basis for the development of ischemic stroke. The CD40/CD40 ligand (CD40L) system and serum soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) are involved in inflammatory processes such as atherosclerosis, and can affect the development and progression of ischemic stroke. The single nucleotide polymorphism CD40 -1C/T might contribute to susceptibility to ischemic stroke by regulating the CD40/CD40L system and the expression of sCD40L. This paper reviews the recent progress in the understanding of the association between CD40 -1C/T single nucleotide polymorphism and ischemic stroke susceptibility.
