Abstract:

Objective

To summarize the clinicopathological features of intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL).

Methods

A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 12 cases of IVLBCL definitely diagnosed at the Department of Pathology, Tai′an Central Hospital from January 2008 to December 2017. Hematoxylin and eosin staining, immunohistochemistry, and histochemistry were performed on the archival paraffin sections.

Results

Amongst the 12 patients studied, 7 were male and 5 was female. Their age at the time of operation ranged from 58 to 76 years. The main clinical symptoms were skin erythema and subcutaneous nodules (in the skin), headache, dizziness and walking instability (in the central nervous system), and cough and phlegm (in the lung). Microscopically, the vascular lumen was filled with tumor cells. Most tumor cells were similar to centroblasts or immunobcasts. Immunohistochemistry showed positive CD20 staining in tumor cells.

Conclusion

IVLBCL is a relatively rare lymphoma characterized by selective growth of lymphoma cells in the vascular lumen. The clinical manifestation is related to the site of occurrence. A thorough understanding of the associated clinical features and immunohistochemical results is helpful in arriving at the correct diagnosis.
