Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expression of DEAD-box RNA helicase 5 (DDX5) in thyroid cancer and to analyze its clinical significance.

Methods

Specimens of thyroid cancer (n=100) and benign thyroid lesions (n=100) surgically removed at the hospitals belonging to Linfen Medical Association from October 2014 to September 2021 were selected, and the clinicopathological data of these patients were collected. Western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the expression of DDX5 in thyroid cancer and benign lesions, and the results were statistically analyzed.

Results

The expression of DDX5 protein in thyroid carcinoma was significantly higher than that in benign tissues (30.44±3.71 vs 13.22±2.83, P<0.01). The positive expression of DDX5 was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and TNM stage of thyroid cancer (P<0.05), but not with age, gender, or pathological type (P>0.05).

Conclusion

Overexpression of DDX5 might be involved in the occurrence and development of thyroid cancer.

Key words: Thyroid cancer, Benign thyroid lesions, DDX5
